Job Scam Warning
Philippines 2025

Fake job offers are rising in the Philippines. This guide covers every red flag, scam type, and how to protect yourself before applying to any job in Manila.

8 Red Flags of Fake Job Offers

If you see any of these — stop, verify, and do not proceed.

They ask you to pay

CRITICAL

Legitimate employers NEVER ask for placement fees, training fees, uniform fees, or ID fees. If they ask for money — it's a scam.

Hired via text or chat only

HIGH

Real companies conduct interviews. If you're "hired" through Facebook Messenger or SMS without any interview — walk away.

No verifiable company address

HIGH

Google the company. If the address doesn't exist, the building doesn't match, or there's no online presence — it's fake.

Salary too good to be true

HIGH

₱80,000/month for a data encoder with no experience? That's a lure. Cross-check salaries on our salary guide.

They ask for your original IDs

CRITICAL

Never surrender original government IDs, passports, or ATM cards to any employer. This is illegal.

Interview in a suspicious location

MEDIUM

Interviews in malls, coffee shops, or residential areas (not an office) are red flags. Legitimate companies have offices.

Extreme urgency pressure

MEDIUM

"You must decide NOW or lose the slot." Scammers create artificial urgency. Real employers give you time to decide.

Overseas job with no POEA clearance

CRITICAL

All overseas job offers must be verified through POEA. No POEA clearance = illegal recruitment.

Common Job Scam Types in the Philippines

Know the playbook scammers use — and how to counter each one.

Placement Fee Scam

Fake agency collects ₱5,000–₱50,000 as "placement fee" then disappears or sends you to a non-existent job.

Never pay. Report to DOLE or NBI.

Fake Overseas Job

Promises high-paying jobs abroad (Japan, Korea, Middle East) without POEA accreditation. Victims end up trafficked or stranded.

Verify at poea.gov.ph before paying anything.

Work-From-Home Scam

Fake remote job requires you to buy equipment or software upfront. After payment, the "employer" vanishes.

Legitimate WFH employers provide equipment or reimburse costs.

Modeling / Talent Scam

Fake talent agencies charge for portfolio shoots, training, or registration. No actual jobs follow.

Verify agency with TESDA or DTI. Never pay for a portfolio.
